History of Our College

Sagar Mahavidyalaya is a co-education college at Sagar in West Bengal, India, which conducts under graduate courses. The college is under University of Calcutta. Established in 1998, the college has got student strength of about 1800. The college offers BA (Honours), BA (General) and BSC (General) at present. September 1998 must have been marked by Providence in a special way for reshaping the future of about 35000 families of the largest delta of the world, the Sagar Islands that have witnessed so many important events of Indian history and have hosted millions of pilgrims over the centuries despite its remoteness and natural inaccessibility. The first Classes of Sagar Mahavidyalaya had been started on 12th September, 1998 at Sundarban Janakalyan Sangha Vidyaniketan, Rudranagar at morning time. But the 'silent revolt' i.e. germination in the minds of the Islanders was occurred long before, so the dream was materialised ignoring typical various hindrances. This college has actually opened the doors of higher education for hundreds of underprivileged rural students who find it difficult to commute to or live in distant places for the same.
